VIDEO: Tabletop Camera Skater Dollies To Get The Shots You Need

Here at Filmtools, we are constantly finding new ways to help filmmakers get creative shots. For those who need a smaller, quicker alternative to a full sized dolly, sliders and skater dollies have become popular tools to have in your kit. Filmtools currently has two skater dollies and plenty of accessories that might just be the solution that you’ve been looking for.

Pico Dolly

The Pico Dolly is just slightly longer than the body of a standard DSLR, giving you a compact solution. The compact nature of the Pico Dolly almost requires the use of at least a ball head such as the Manfrotto 496, which will elevate your camera above the wheels and allow you to position the camera where you need it. This dolly is great for smaller cameras and DSLRs with short lenses on them.

Konova Skater Dolly

The Konova Dolly is noticeably larger in every way, but height. Both dollies have a low to the ground profile, allowing you to get as low as possible for your shots. If you’re using a large or zoom lens, the Konova might be worth a look. Both the longer wheel base as well as the wider track allows for more weight as well smoother shots over distance.

Flexible and Easy to Accessorize

Both Dollies have adjustable axles, which allows you to move the camera along a variety of axis points, giving you the power of a full sized dolly in your hands. Both dollies run on roller blade–style wheels with bearings, providing the smoothest movement possible. We at Filmtools also recommend using a slider plate, such as the Manfrotto  577 Quick Release Adapter, so you can adjust the camera’s center of balance. 4″ and 8″ extension risers are also available to give you even more options when filming.
